New Cairo is located beside a desert and being located in Egypt, which is basically a country formed due to a past revolution, it is best not to read much about the place online and one should just concentrate on the intriguing stuff. The people over there are friendly and welcoming and the city does not make a guest uncomfortable, as it shows in the news or online.
There might be some cultural differences, but there is nothing to be extra cautious.It is pretty much the same lifestyle like in any other city. People visit coffee houses, they sit their for hours, play backgammon and smoke shisha, the water pipe (or hookah). This water pipe can be available in different flavors like mint, honey, apple etc. These coffee houses are places where people recite Quran or hold long discussions or watch TV or even listen to the radio. There is also an active industry of movie making in Egypt. They produce around 60-100 films every year. They also get movies from outside of Egypt, but any offensive scene is edited.Apart from these there is a dominant real estate market where many flat or apartments are available for sale in New Cairo.
